The Leatherman FREE T4 is a lightweight everyday multi-tool that clips directly to a belt or pocket, without a pouch or case. The pocket clip is very strong and holds the tool securely in place. The features include a short and very strong blade made of 420HC steel, which is both durable and easy to sharpen, a variety of screwdrivers, scissors, a file and tweezers.
The basic features included make this an ideal general purpose tool and it is also very lightweight, due to the bulk of the body being filled with a plastic spacer rather than metal. This very clever use of alternative materials in no way weakens the tool with the resulting reduction in weight being a real benefit. The scales have a nicely textured metal finish which gives good grip and a nice look to the T4 and the locking mechanism, which uses magnets to operate, is substantial and easy to operate. The tools are accessed by pushing down on small levers at the hinge end of each one, which makes them pop up, and then rotating them until they lock into position. The scissors are short and stubby making them very strong and they are well sprung, so they open easily.
Overall, this is a great multi-tool and the use of a non-metallic material inside the body makes it much lighter than similar tools with the same features. Weighing just 4.2-ounces and carrying a very useful 2.2- inch blade this is a compact and durable tool backed by Leatherman’s 25 year guarantee.
